Public Holidays - paid public holidays - Ontario
Public holiday are days that most employees are entitled to have a day off work with pay under the Employment Standards Act (ESA). Some jobs are not covered by the public holiday provisions of the ESA. Additional information on Public Holiday Pay can be found on the Ministry of Labour website.
Paid holidays in Ontario are:
- New Year's Day
- Family Day (3rd Monday in February)
- Good Friday
- Victoria Day
- Canada Day
- Labour Day
- Thanksgiving Day
- Christmas Day
- Boxing Day
Some employers give their employees a holiday for other days such as Easter Sunday, Easter Monday, Civic Holiday (the first Monday in August) or Remembrance Day. However, these days are not public holidays under the Employment Standards Act (ESA).
